Types of Roses

Roses are interesting plant life. They are the best known flower in the world cultivated for the sole purpose of beauty. The many types of roses make everything beautiful, from architectural themes to the ornamental designs of events such as Valentine’s Day, wedding, and even funeral. There are many poetic and mythological allusions to the rose plant but the much of humanity’s fascination is centered on their blossoms above all other parts of their structure. Today, roses are commonly known as American Beauties. Rose also generally symbolizes passion and romance.

There is one famous Roman myth about the origin of the rose, which is then again, centered on its astounding beauty. A beautiful woman named Rhodanthe possessed such striking looks that men would go wild at the sight of her. Disinterested with their passionate frenzy, she took refuge inside the temple of a goddess named Diana. The goddess was jealous of how her friend could lure men with such a powerful charm as her own looks. When the madmen battered down the temple walls just to get near Rhodanthe, the furious Diana transformed her friend into the red blossom and the madmen were turn into its thorns. Indeed, the American Beauty is legendary in her own right. Rhodanthe had many descendants throughout mankind’s history and these are some of the types of roses:

Four Types of Roses

I. Climbing Perennial Types of Roses

Among the many types of roses, climbing roses are called as such due to their capability to imitate vines with the way they cling to architectural structures. The only difference between vines and climbing roses is that the latter needed the assistance of the gardener in order to successfully cling on structures. They do not have the full capacity to infest structures the way vines do. They could make magnificent adornment for structures and it is easy to understand how their presence becomes valuable in exquisite hotels and romantic-themed restaurants.

II. Hybrid Tea Rose

Hybrid Tea Rose prides itself for its elegance and fragrance. They are the types of roses with the greatest fragrance.  Hybrid Tea Roses are a cross-breed effect between Hybrid Perpetuals and Tea Roses. Types of Roses - Climber RosesThough they may be the most elegant and fragrant, they are also the frailest types of roses. They are susceptible to diseases and damage from harsh weather. They are the most vulnerable and gardeners surely find them to be high-maintenance flowers. They have lost their popularity during the middle of the 1900’s up to the contemporary times. It is for this reason that some gardeners ended up creating offspring from them and splicing their graceful genes with other types of roses that have a higher level of endurance.

III. Knockout Rose

Knockout Roses are designed to be as beautiful as a rose flower could be. However, what really sets them apart as types of roses  is their capability to withstand harsh conditions and their ability to grow in any area known in United States of America. They are new types of roses.  Double Knockout RoseThey are heat-tolerant, disease resistant and winter hardy. From these three descriptions, one would think what was being described was a winter oak or a desert cactus, but as one of the many types of roses, their hardiness is unique.

IV. Floribunda

Floribunda gets its namesake from the literal Latin meaning, “many flowering”. They are a cross-breed between a frail yet majestic Hybrid Tea Roses and the virile and erratic-blooming polyantha rose native to Chine, Japan and Korea. They inherit the best qualities of two parents. What the polyantha rose lacked in beauty and fragrance are being compensated by the genes of a Hybrid Tea rose. What the Hybrid Tea Rose lacks in biological imperviousness, the polyantha rose bequeaths such quality.

These are just a few of the many types of roses.
